Faerie Dazzler is judged outstanding mare

    15 Jan 2018

The SHB(GB) Elite graded mare Faerie Dazzler was judged the winner of the 2017 Horse & Hound ‘outstanding mare’ award that was presented at the recent British Breeding awards evening.

Former SHB(GB) Chairman Jennie Loriston-Clarke receives the award on behalf of breeder Trisha Rickards from Horse & Hound sport horse editor Polly Bryan

Faerie Dazzler (AKA Faerie Song Too) was bred by her owner Trisha Rickards a long-standing breeder and owner of event horses. ‘Daisy’ as Faerie Dazzler was known, was born in 1990. She was by the SHB(GB) graded grand prix dressage stallion Catherston Dazzler (Dutch Courage-Welton Gameful) out of Trisha’s homebred mare Clayton Mudlark who was by the well-known thoroughbred stallion Ben Faerie, also the sire of Ginny Leng’s British team horses and four-star winners Priceless and Nightcap. Mudlark was out of the homebred mare Mopoke, who was by the throughbred Xenocles who also stood at Catherston and was like both Dutch Courage and Catherston Dazzler ridden in dressage by Jennie Loriston Clarke.

Daisy was the first of eight offspring for Mudlark whose other offspring include the former advanced event horse Ben Auk (by Mayhill) the mare Faerie Queen (by Rock King) now the dam of current event horses Menlo Park (Oliver Townend) and Villa Ada (Jack Pinkney) and her last born in 2006, Faerie Free (by Catherston Liberator) who is still competing.

Daisy was successful in eventing up to three-star level under the Australian rider David Green (above). The pair started at Burghley in 2001 but had to withdraw after dressage although they completed Boekelo CCI3* the following month and in 2002 Daisy was retired home to stud.

She is now the dam of two four-star horses both still owned by Trisha; Faerie Dianimo (by Dimaggio) the 2016 Olympic ride of Jonelle Price, since placed at four-star and in 2017 graded into the SHB(GB) Head studbook, and Xavier Faer (by Catherston Liberator) the ride of Tim Price with who he was 3rd at Badminton and ended the year as the highest placed British-bred horse in the 2017 BE rankings for which he won his owner/breeder the BE Wide Awake Trophy.

Her daughter Faerie Dianimo graded Head studbook and was the second highest marked mare of the 2017 mare grading. She also competes at four-star

Her son Xavier Faer winner of the 2017 British Eventing Wide Awake trophy

Daisy’s other progeny include; Jack Green 2003 (by Kuwait Beach) who sadly died after an injury having reached advanced level, Faerie Maybe 2004 (by Mayhill) sold and now a broodmare, Faerie Fifty Shades 2009 (by Deanes San Ciro Hit) currently competing and Faerie Magnifico 2013 (by Grafenstolz) who last year started competing and qualified for four-year-old young horse finals.

The award, presented by Horse & Hound sport horse editor Polly Bryan was received on behalf of Trisha by Jennie Loriston-Clarke
