The conclusion of two days of classes at the Alexander Horseboxes SHB(GB) National Championships, saw the SHB(GB) registered mare Miss Velvet Brown claim the final class of the weekend, The Cuddy in-hand and SHB(GB) Supreme Championship, which was contested by nine show champions.
The three-year-old, almost thoroughbred mare owned by Rosemary Penn and shown by Tony Wareham, was bred by Ann Bassett of Etheridge Farm Stud and is by the stud’s thoroughbred stallion Aveia, a son of the SHB(GB) life approved Roviris, out of the mare Aintree Oats by Oats. Miss Velvet Brown is out of Kilmallock Lady (Don Tristan xx-Golden Cliff xx). She will now contest the Cuddy final at the Horse of the Year Show (5-9 October).
Stephen Davey’s homebred broodmare Trenavey Irish Mist (Catherston Dazzler-Gael Force) stood reserve having claimed the Champion Sport Horse Broodmare title.
The Hunter Broodmare Champion’s sash was awarded to Kiss N Tell (Brief Encounter-Oats xx) bred and owned by Cathy Wood. Nine-year-old Kiss N Tell, a hunter filly champion at the show as a two and three-year-old, is one of 10 offspring for her thoroughbred dam Lucky Harvest (Oats-Dual) who was also the dam of the stallion Stormhill Miller. Kiss N Tell’s un-named foal by Furst Kiss was champion foal.
The three-year-old Wallace Town, owned and bred by Mr and Mrs William Moran, gained the male Sport Horse Championship and then stood ‘Best British-bred’ Champion. Wallace Town is by the SHB(GB) graded stallion Up with the Lark out of a mare by the SHB(GB) graded thoroughbred Primitive Proposal.
The Small Hunter Champion Forever Poppy is also by Up with the Lark. The two-year-old filly bred and owned by Anna Sykes is out of Forever Jilly by the Cleveland bay Storth House Temptation.
Charles Upham’s homebred Langaller Leading Light stood Hunter filly Champion. The three-year-old is by the stud’s homebred SHB(GB) graded stallion Langaller Starring Role (Catherston Dazzler-I’m a Star xx) out of the much lauded mare Chantry Clover Girl by Power Blade XX.
The Male Hunter Youngstock Champion Inspector Montelbano is another by the thoroughbred Aveia and was also bred by Ann Bassett. The yearling now owned by Mrs RJ Stevenson is out of a mare by the SHB(GB) graded former grand prix dressage stallion Roulette.
UCS Montikarla (Montender-Ed King Hill) - left - owned by Ms A Chapman was the coloured Champion and Griffin Bridge (Ally’s Bridge-Mount Diamond Flag) - right - owned by Tynddol Felindre was the Irish Draught in-hand Champion
